More Bullish Global News??? DOW Not Seeing Seasonal Slowdown

This is big news folks. It has been years since Dow Chemical reported Q4 sales that did not decline 2% – 5%. For them to be saying sales are flat means globally at the base level, things are remaining strong and this flows forward to Q1 2011. Not only is is good news for this quarter, it is also positive for the beginning of 2011.

Bloomberg

Dow Chemical Co., the world’s second-biggest chemical company, said fourth-quarter sales are matching those in the preceding three months, led by demand for materials used in electronics.

A seasonal demand decline normally seen in December has yet to materialize, the Midland, Michigan-based company’s Chief Financial Officer Bill Weideman said today in an investor presentation broadcast on the Internet.

Fourth-quarter sales will drop 3.4 percent compared with the third quarter to $12.4 billion, according to the average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.

Electronics demand is “going gangbusters,” and commodity plastics and chemicals sales are still “strong,” Weideman said. “Overall demand is very solid, similar to third-quarter levels,” he said.
