Employment Data Signals Continued Expansion

 

‘Davidson” submits:

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 175,000 in April, and the unemployment rate changed little at 3.9 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Job gains occurred in health care, in social assistance, and in transportation and warehousing.  There were downward revisions for the last 2mos but the general trend in the Establishment series continues to rise. The Household series has stalled as the self-employed category which is the difference, Household-minus-Establishment, falling to the 3,000,000 range from 7,400,000 reported Dec 2020 during COVID.

Net/net, employment continues to rise with Household lagging reflecting a general economic expansion.
